Daniel E. Pfeifer, 73, Hays, died Monday, March 26, 2012, at Hays Medical Center. He was born April 15, 1938, in Hays to Eugene and Irene (Dinges) Pfeifer.
He graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in 1955, and he received an electrical engineering degree from Kansas State University.
He married Emily Werth on Aug. 29, 1959, in Schoenchen.
He was an electrical engineer for Honeywell in Minneapolis, Minn. He was a farmer and rancher and later was a systems manager for the IT department at Fort Hays State University. He was active in his church, helping with religious education in Fridley, Minn., RCIA, CCD and parish council at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.
Survivors include his wife, Hays; three sons, Kevan Pfeifer and wife, Melanie, Shepherd, Mont., Robin Pfeifer, Miles City, Mont., and Randall Pfeifer and wife, Deborah, Hays; two daughters, Stephanie Pedersen and husband, Leslie, Aurora, Colo., and Kimberly Weber and husband, Brian, Manhattan; a sister, Kay Stegman and husband, Dennis, Elkhorn, Neb.
16 grandchildren, Micke'l (Ashley), Janek (Alison) Pfeifer, Breanna (Jesse) Seltmann, Grayson and Christian Pfeifer, McKenna, Mesa and Tristan Pfeifer, Rachel and Jacob Pedersen, Ember, Joseph and Trevor Pfeifer, and Hayden, Keith and Audra Weber; and seven great-grandchildren, Mason, Elizabeth and Faith Pfeifer, Hudson Pfeifer, Rome, Kyla and Cash Seltmann.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Chance Pfeifer; and a brother, William Pfeifer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, all at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601. There will be a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
