Mrs. Pullen was born July 15, 1943, in Page County, to the late Irby and Louise Koontz Kite. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Alexander.
Barbara was a member of the Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene and was a graduate of JMU with bachelor's and master's degrees. Barbara taught in the Page County Public School System for over 35 years and taught the G.E.D. Program at the Work Force Center in Luray and the Tech Center in Stanley. She was Teacher of the Year in Page County and also Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in Luray. She also served as secretary for the Grove Hill Community Center in Shenandoah.
On Jan. 11, 1963, she married the love of her life, William Bryan Pullen, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Eric K. Pullen and wife, Lisa, of Shenandoah; a brother, Douglas Kite of Shenandoah; two sisters, Jane Lee Doss of Troutville and Diana Kite of Berryville; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012, with Pastor Jim Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Shenandoah.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service in Elkton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shenandoah Rescue Squad, 544 Fourth St., Shenandoah, VA 22849.
