Captain Ian Samuel Morrison, U.S. Army, 26, of Copperas Cove, Texas, formerly of Hockessin, DE, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Christian burial will take place in Texas. A service of remembrance will be held at Berea Presbyterian Church, Hockessin, DE (across Rt. 41 from Sanford School) on Wednesday, April 4, with family visitation beginning at 6 p.m., and service at 7 p.m. Ian's family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 5-7 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, Texas. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the 1st Calvary Division Memorial Chapel, at 73rd and Battalion Avenue on Fort Hood. Graveside services with full military honors will be at 4 p.m. in the Griffin Cemetery between Griffin and Troup, Texas. Prior to the graveside services all friends and family will gather at Autrey Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Texas for a procession to the cemetery.
Ian was born at Camp LeJeune, NC, to Gregory and Kathleen Morrison. He graduated from McKean High School, where he was an honors student, involved in choral music, art, cross-country, and was co-captain of the swimming team. Graduating from West Point in 2007, he entered the Army's Aviation Branch, earned his pilot wings in 2009, and was assigned to the 229th Aviation Regiment at Fort Hood, TX. He had recently returned from deployment to Iraq.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; his parents, Gregory and Kathleen Morrison; brother, Benjamin J., of Athens, GA; sister, Joanna C.; grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. John Morrison, of Boothwyn, PA, and Mrs. Trudy Marsh, of Quarryville, PA; father and mother-in-law, Ross and Pam Harrison, of Grand Prairie, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and a host of friends.
