Civil rights activist, Catholic priest and founder of Martin University in Indianapolis.

Rev. Fr. Boniface Hardin began his high school education at St. Meinrad High School in Southern Indiana. He then attended St. Meinrad College and was ordained at St. Meinrad School of Theology in 1959, one of the first blacks to be ordained there. He went to Indianapolis in 1965 to serve as an associate pastor at Holy Angels Church. in 1969 he founded the Martin Center, a precursor to Martin University which he co-founded as Martin Center College with Sister Jane Schilling in 1977. In 2002 he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and became an outspoken advocate for PSAT testing in men, especially black men. He was named International Citizen of the Year by the International Center of Indianapolis and a Living Legend by the Indiana Historical Society in 2002, and received the Community Leadership Award by the Indianapolis Senior Center in 2009. He retired as president of Martin University in 2007.
