Pallbearers will be Charles Tillman, John Osborne, Sammie Blakey, Travis Blakey, Rico Eversley, and James Mothershed. Honorary pallbearers will be his children: Timothy, Paige, Tiffany, Jordan and Jayden and granddaughter Kennedy.

James was born July 20, 1965, in Sioux City, Iowa, to James and Mary Jane (Blakey) Lightner Sr. He grew up in Sioux City and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Sioux City. He attended Hopkins grade school, West Junior High and West High while living in Sioux City. He moved to Yankton in 1981 and attended Yankton High School. After high school James started trucking with his dad and uncle, LeRoy Blakey. James worked at various jobs over the years and was recently working on the construction of the new Menards building in Yankton. James met the love of his life Jodi Sherman in November of 1995; they were married on October 9, 2003, in Omaha, Nebraska.

James enjoyed fishing, grilling with friends and family, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and the semi trucks go by on the highway. He was "famous" for his BBQ ribs. Most of all James enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his children's sporting events. James's children were his life. James was a very spiritual man and wanted, more than anything, to have his family follow "The Word" of God.

Survivors include his wife, Jodi of Yankton; four children: Timothy and his fiancé Paige VanSimaeys, Tiffany, Jordan, and Jayden Lightner all of Yankton; one granddaughter, Kennedy Grace Gednalske; twin sister, Jammie Ballard of Sioux City, Iowa; sister, Margie Williams of Sioux City; brother, Charles (Sandy) Willier of Minnesota; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Jane; brother, Robert Willier; and many aunts and uncles.
