Former Auxiliary for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Monsignor Gustave Augustin Rouxel was born in Redon, Ille-et-Vilaine, France, on February 2, 1840, and was ordained to the Priesthood at 23 years of age on November 4, 1863.
Appointed Auxiliary for the Archdiocese of New Orleans by Pope Leo XIII, Rouxel received his Episcopal Consecration with the Titular See of Curium on April 9, 1899, from Archbishop Placide Louis Chapelle, assisted by Bishops Thomas Heslin and José Maria Ignacio Montes de Oca y Obregón.
Bishop Rouxel died in New Orleans on March 16, 1908, aged 68.
