Employee of the United States Department of State. She was the Deputy Political Officer at the US Embassy In Tehran Iran when it was seized by Islamic militants on November 4, 1979. She and 51 others were held hostage for 444 days until they were finally released on January 20, 1981. She was one of only two women who were held for the entire 444 days. Her assignment in Tehran was a part of a long dipomatic career that spanned from 1963 to 1995 and included assignments in Philippines, Indonesia Washington DC, Greece, Jamaica and the United Kingdom.
