He was the son of Humphrey Gaines and Elizabeth Warren. He was in the war of 1812. He was first married to Mary Ann Deaton Gaines. Mary was granted a divorce from Henry Strother Gaines by an act of the Georgia State Legislature on 14 Dec 1829. He married his brother William Jordan Gaines's widowed mother in law, Rhoda Bates on 20 Jul 1830. He died in 1847 but his estate papers were not filed until Rhoda died in 1863.

The grave is located in a cemetery located behind a small white frame house exactly three houses North of Roper Road on Sugar Pike Road. Follow a clearing just to the left (North) of this home and you will find the cemetery and grave next to a large cedar...(Read more)
