John was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He retired as a sales manager from CED/American Electric Co. in St. Joseph, Mo. He will be missed by a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Merideth Gunter Sr.; son, John Merideth Gunter III; sister, Sarah Louise Wright;
Survivors include wife, Debra Gunter; son and daughter-in-law, Trent Odessell and Beth Gunter of Kansas; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Thomas Whitaker; stepson; Jeremy Porter of Knoxville; seven grandchildren; mother, Mamie "Lorene" Gunter; brother, Kelley Gunter and wife, Evelyn of Maryville; sister, Judy Gay Baumbach and husband, George of N.C.; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and interment at 1 p.m., Monday, March 26, 2012, at Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Sam Boone officiating.
