Distinguished citizen of Henry, IL, able physician and skilled surgeon, Dr. Edward Gorton Cromwell was born in DeKalb IL, the son of Dr. Philip and Katherine (Halligan) Cromwell. After obtaining his Doctor of Medicine in 1896 from the Chicago School of Homeopathy, he served for nearly two years as an intern at Cook County Hospital. He then moved to Henry, IL where he served the balance of his life in partnership with Dr. T.C. Coggeshall, a fellow surgeon and physician. He married Ms. Grace V. Paskell , daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.F. Paskell on June 10, 1899. Three children were born of this union: Dorothy V., John Philip, and Frederick P. Cromwell. After the death of his wife on Sept. 18, 1921, Dr. Cromwell married Leah Wier Cowan, widow of the late George W. Cowan on Oct. 30, 1922. He was a director of the First National Bank of Henry. He was also a member of the Masonic order, attaining the Knight Templar degree.
