Professional Hockey Player, Coach. For twenty-one seasons (1952 to 1973), he played at the left-wing position in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks. He began his lengthy association with the sport in 1951 as member of the Toronto Marlboros, prior to marking his NHL debut with Toronto during the 1951-1953 season. He would go onto become a significant contributor to the Maple Leafs' dynasty teams of the 1960s which included an abundance of future Hall of Fame players among them Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Bob Pulford and Tim Horton, whom captured three consecutive Stanley Cup titles (1962, 1963 and 1964). He amassed 1,353 regular season games with 276 goals and 253 assists, achieving All-Star status four-times (1955, 1962, 1963 and 1964). Following his career as a player, Stewart served stints as head coach of the New York Rangers (1975-1976) and Los Angeles Kings (1977 to 1978). He would return to his native Calgary, where he managed junior hockey teams in addition to investing in some businesses. He died from cancer.
