Lavern W. Holtmeier, 87, of Rockville died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the Veterans Medical Center in Grand Island. Lavern was born June 23, 1924, in Beatrice to Albert and Hermina (Meyer) Holtmeier.
On April 19, 1948, he married Shirley Grote in Daykin.
Survivors are: wife; son, Boyd Holtmeier and his wife, Paula, of Hay Springs; daughters, Diane Delka and her husband, Dale, of Superior and Verla Barber and her husband, John, of Lincoln; son-in-law, Richard Hafer of Fairmont; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Norval Holtmeier of North Platte and Aldo Holtmeier and his wife, Marlyn, of Crete; and sister-in-law, Jean Holtmeier of Grand Island.
Lavern was educated at Zion Lutheran School in Tobias.
Lavern served in the U.S. Army.
Lavern and Shirley were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Daykin. They made their home on farms north of Daykin, Tobias and Fairmont. They retired to Rockville in 1988.
Lavern was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Farmers Co-op Board and was a 4-H leader.
Lavern was preceded in death by daughter, Sondra; brother, LeRoy; and great-grandson.
Burial was in the Fairmont Cemetery, Fairmont, NE.
