Leo Antone Captain of Miami, OK passed away Monday March 19, 2012 at Miami Nursing Center in Miami. He was 97.
Mr. Captain was born October 16, 1914 in Miami, OK to Thomas and Florence (Longan) Captain. Leo was the eldest surviving member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II serving in the "CBs" (Navy Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theater of the war. He was an alumni of the Haskell Indian School in Lawrence, KS, and was a member of their boxing team, for which he won many honors and medals. While at Haskell, he was employed by the Oscar Pierson Wholesale Co. for several years. Leo was a longtime member of Teamsters Union Local 823 and a member of St. John's Prestige Club.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Miami, and a member of the Martin Class.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years Lorene Captain, his parents, Thomas and Florence Captain, sisters Stella Mae, and Thelma Sullivan and brothers Thurman, John, Charley, George J."Buck" and Dennis "Sandy" Captain.

Virginia Hart of Fargo, Florida
Sister-in-law Jackie Brewer of Miami, OK.
Graveside Services will be Thursday March 22, 2012 at 2:00 pm. At Baxter Springs Cemetery in Baxter Springs, KS. Pastor Leon Weece will officiate. Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, OK (Betty)
