European Race Car Driver. He was born into a motor racing family in Milan, Italy. His famous father Antonio Ascari was killed at the French Grand Prix when he was just seven. Alberto Ascari started his career racing motorcycles and then race cars. World War II interrupted his racing. During the war, Ascari started a road transportation business with a partner and hauled fuel to Musolini's armies in North Africa. Resuming his racing in the postwar, he won 47 international races in 56 starts including two world championships. He was testing a Ferrari sportcar at Monza, Italy. While on the third lap, his car crashed into the wall. He was thrown out on the track and suffered fatal injuries. He was inducted into The International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1992.
