Anna Margaretha (also spelled Margaretta) Vollrath was born 13 February 1806 in Frohnlach, Germany, to Johann Lorenz Vollrath and Margaretha Barbara Knauer Vollrath. Frohnlach is a municipality in Ebersdorf bei Coburg, Bavaria.
She married Johann Nicholaus Oberender (also spelled Oberrender)in Ebersdorf, Germany, on 20 April 1829. (Her grandson, H. W. Oberrender, wrote that she married Johann in November 1828.) She and Johann lived in Ebersdorf and conducted a tailoring business, together with Johann's father, for the next 11 years. Ebersdorf is only about 6 miles from Frohnlach.
She and her husband and 5 children emigrated to the United States via Hamburg, sailing on May 10,1840; they were 65 days in crossing the Atlantic Ocean. They settled in Conyngham, Luzerne County, PA, near Jeddo, where they lived for the rest of their lives.
Altogether, Anna and Johann had 11 children. At the time of H. W. Oberrender's printed biography of his grandmother, there were still 7 children surviving: Stephen, Margaret, Nicholas, Paul, Edward, Dorothy, and Christina.
She is my husband's Great Great Grandmother.
THANK YOU to Jennifer Boone for finding and photographing Anna's stone marker! The marker, however, shows Anna's death year as 1896, whereas the biography by Anna's family shows her death year as 1893.
