Leo Aberle, 67, Musician, dies Leo J. Aberle, 67, of 810 Emerald St., was dead on arrival at a hospital Sunday (Sept. 6 1970) after an apparent heart attack at home. He was a lifelong Madison resident. He was a professional musician and taught music.

Surviving are his wife, the former Christene Christenson; a daughter, Arlene (Andrew) Baggely, Wyncote, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Hammond, Hemet, Calif.; Mrs. Nell Wilhelm, 600 S. Brearly St.; and Mrs. Joseph R. Wrend, 4017 Tokay Blvd.; and two grandchildren.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

LEO ABERLE, popular 64 year-old Madison banjoist, now performs Friday through Sunday at Shakey's Pizza West, 6640 University Ave., Middleton, after a five-year stint at Shakey's East, 3553 E. Washington Ave.

SIXTY FOUR year old banjoist Leo Aberle last week celebrated his fifth anniversary of performing at Shakey's East, 3553 E. Washington Ave. Aberle and his pianist partner, Jim Godfriaux, perform Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at the pizza "stube." Ray Fallon singles on the piano Wednesdays and Thursdays at the nightspot which caters to singles, couples or the whole family.

Aberle has been a musician since he began playing a Madison neighbor's mandolin when he was only 13; went on to teach music to millionaire's kids, including Florenz Ziegfield's daughter, and the then young heir, George Vanderbuilt, in Palm Beach, Fla.

The professional banjo picker is a veteran of the Thompson Orchestras, an organization of 16 bands popular in the midwest and on the University of Wisconsin campus in the 1920s.
