Funeral services for Carroll Duane Evans, age 77, of Henderson, will be held at Rader Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 2:00pm. Brother Bill Tisdale will officiate assisted by Don Hilton of the Southside Baptist Church in Aurora, MO, and Mark Fried of Forest Home Baptist Church in Kilgore, and Robert Hall of First Baptist Church Henderson. Burial will follow in the Laneville Cemetery.
Mr. Evans went to be with his Savior and Lord on Sunday, March 18, 2012 after a lengthy illness. He was born December 17, 1934 in Henderson, Texas to Mildred and Carroll Evans. He graduated New London High School in 1953 where his father was football coach and agriculture teacher, and his mother was a first grade teacher. He graduated from Sam Houston University in 1957 and was a member of Phi Mu Alph, a music fraternity. He then attended Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth to prepare him for the Baptist Music Ministry. After 2 years he moved to Nashville, Tenn. to sing with Broadman Chorale and record songs for a new Baptist Hymnal. After completing that project he went into full time evangelism. He led revivals in Texas, Maui, and Japan with the Baptist New Life Movement.
He married Cecilia Taber in 1963, who joined him in evangelism, doing chalk drawings to accompany his solos. As the boys were born, he went into church music and served locally at Trinity Baptist Church, Forest Home Baptist, First Baptist Overton, and retired after 13 years at First Baptist Mt. Enterprise. He sang with the Century Men of Nashville and the Singing Men of East Texas as well as a barbershop group in Longview.
He is survived by his wife Cecilia , and sons Kevin and wife Judy of Greenville, TX , Kyle and his wife Valarie of Coppers Canyon, TX and Keith and wife Cyndi of Casper, WY as well as four grandchildren Blake, Clay, Erin, and Amanda.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be at the Rader Funeral Home in Henderson Friday the 23rd of March from 6pm~8pm.
Pallbearers will be Farrell Dorsey, John Taylor, Buddy Vinson, Kevin and Kyle Evans and Jim Mayo.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heartsway Hospice, 1306 Pine Tree Road in Longview TX. 75604 or to Margaret's House, Beacon Hospice, 5016 Gilmer Rd. Longview, TX 75604 in lieu of flowers.
