Jean Cleveland Bennett, 78, Cherokee Village, Ark., formerly the Casey and Martinsville area, died at 2 p.m. Friday, February 20, 1998 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 24, 1998 at Mr. Olive-Kickapoo Church, Martinsville, with the Rev. Earl Poff and Rev. Hugh Smith officiating. Burial will be held in the Kickapoo Cemetery in Martinsville. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Markwell & Son Funeral Home in Casey.
He was born April 7, 1919 in Martinsville, the son of Nathan and Dovie (Connelly) Bennett. He married Margaret Fasig on March 21, 1940 in Henderson, Ky.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Cherokee Village, Ark; three sons, Ivan Bennett and his wife Joyce of Martinsville, Marion Bennett of Cherokee Village, Ark. and Nathan Bennett and his wife Elizabeth of Casey; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jim Ewart of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mabel and Ernest Leitzman of Tucson, Ariz. and Betty and Edward Listrom of Cherokee Village, Ark; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Denzil and Wayne and one sister, Dorothy Deach.
Mr. Bennett was a minister for over 44 years at the Kickapoo, Nebo and Block churches and was presently retired. He was a partner of the former "Lone Star Drilling Co." and owner of the former "J. C. Bennett Drilling Co."
