Early Life/Education: Karl was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, on June 30, 1924, to Carl and Catherine Schroller Herde. In 1943, he graduated from Washington High School in Portland, Oregon.
Secondary Education: BYU
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Karl enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre until 1946. Prior to leaving for the war in the Pacific, Karl married Myrna Jane Durfee April 1, 1944, in Provo, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1949 with a master's degree and began his career as an educator and Certified Public Accountant. In 1988, he retired from BYU after 30 years of service as an accounting professor and auditor. Karl was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Cub Master, stake clerk, ward clerk, high councilor and counselor in the high priest group. His favorite pastimes were spending time with his family, being of service to his neighbors and gardening. He will be dearly missed and remembered as a caring, cheerful person. Karl Herde Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed from this life March 22, 2003, due to a sudden heart attack.
Survived By: His wife, Myrna; son, Gary (Cheri) Herde; daughters: Terri (Alan) Rhodes, Sherrie (William) Finlay, Kathryn (Michael) Coons; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceded In Death By: His parents and son, Eric Herde.
