Don Isaac Baughard, 81, of Mosheim, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 22, 1929, in Greeneville, and was a son of the late Isaac B. and Oda Kelton Baughard.

Mr. Baughard retired from Doughty-Stevens Furniture after 43 years of service.

Following his retirement, he worked for Ronnie Jaynes Flooring as long as his health permitted.

His family provided the following statement:

"He was an active and faithful member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, where he was serving on the church Finance Committee. He formerly held the office of church treasurer for several years, served as chairman of Home Missions of the church, and for several years was a church trustee.

"Don received his life membership in Mosheim Lodge No. 463, F&AM, on Jan. 1, 2001, after 50 years of membership.

"He was also a member of Mosheim Chapter No. 292, Order of Eastern Star, for more than 50 years.

"He was a charter member of Mount Pleasant Ruritan Club, having served as club treasurer for many years. He had served on the Ruritan board of directors.

"He was such a kind, giving, caring, and loving husband, father, grandfather and a playmate to his great-grandchildren and was known for his devotion and dedication to his family.

"His love of God was exemplified through his dedication to his church, community, needy children and also through his visitation to his friends in the nursing homes, hospitals, or to those who are shut-in at home.

"Don was a true gentleman and had genuine kindness and thoughtfulness for others. He also loved and enjoyed the family farm, sports and watching his 'grandboys' play ball. Don himself was known for his talent as a quarterback during his high school career and was drafted to go pro but, again, dedication to family came first.

"Don's friendliness and warm spirit will be missed by all who knew him, however, he leaves behind many wonderful memories and a fine Christian example."
