Jannette Rose was the daughter of Henry and Stella (Van Iperen) Houtsma. She was raised at Orange City. In April of 1943, she married John Bart Mouw at Sioux City. They farmed north of Orange City until 1950, when they moved into town. He passed away in August of 1963 at Orange City. In earlier years, "Jan" was a librarian at the Orange City and Alton Public Libraries. Later, she became librarian for the Floyd Valley Schools in Hospers and Newkirk. She retired about 1985.
She was a member of the American Reformed Church.

Survivors include her four children, Lynne Docter, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; John Bruce Mouw of East Norwich, New York; Sheryl "Happy" Millen of Des Moines; and Jeffrey Blame Mouw of Whidby Island, Washington; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and sister, Joanna Den Beste of Sheldon.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alvin Houtsma.
