LeRoy S. Oviatt, 83, of Chosen Valley Care Center, Chatfield, died Monday, Sept. 1, 1997, in Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester after a one-day illness.
He was born Aug. 10, 1914, in rural Wykoff. He married Marion Gray on June 30, 1938, in Harmony. She died in July 1986. He was raised in Wykoff and lived in Chatfield, Utica, St. Charles and Faribault before returning to Chatfield in 1977. He was a farmer and owned and operated the Little Acorn Cafe in Utica. He worked at the state school in Faribault until retiring in 1976. He was a lifetime member of the Hunters and Trappers Association.
Survivors include a son, Larry, of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Bernard) Bachtold of Longmont, Colo.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verleen (Mrs. Ervin) Borgen of Rochester. He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and three sisters.
The funeral was Friday at Chatfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Cox-Townsend officiating. Burial was in Chatfield Cemetery.
