The daughter of John Thomas Vint and Lucy Ann Wagaman, Cynthia married Joseph Leonard "Len" Shields on 01 Aug 1880 in Monroe County, Indiana.

Cynthia's sister, Amanda, was married to Len's brother, David Shields.

Len died of a stroke in 1922.

Children from first marriage: None.

Cynthia married Henry Alexander about 1926. He was the father of at least 5 children from his first marriage.

Henry was a carpenter contractor until his health failed. He died of a sudden heart attack in 1932.

Children from second marriage: None.

Cynthia died of pneumonia at the age of 80. She was buried on 26 Mar 1936.

Obituary excerpts:



Mrs. Cynthia E. Alexander, aged 82, died at 5:33 a.m. today at the home of her sister, Mrs. Amanda Shields, 508 north Morton street. Death was due to bronchial pneumonia, after an illness of six days. Mrs. Alexander was the widow of Henry Alexander, who died four years ago. Her first husband was Len Shields, who preceded her in death 14 years ago.

Besides the sister the surviving relatives are five nieces, Mrs. Roy Dupree and Mrs. Lon Hatton, of this city, Mrs. Joe Butcher, of Fairfax, Mrs. Ona Galyan, of Indianapolis and Mrs. Grace Hawkins, of Sanders, and three nephews, Wade Shields, Vine Vint and Lee Vint.


Funeral services will be held at the East 16th Street Pentecostal church at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon and will be in charge of the Rev. Ray Faulkner and the Rev. John Hays. Interment in Knight Ridge cemetery. Pallbearers: Carlin Vint, Estel Butcher, Ernest Hawkins, Millard Shields, Russell Shields and Tom Shields. Flower bearers: Mrs. Robert McBride, Mrs. Earl Quillen, Mrs. Herman Wilburn and Mrs. Oneita Shields.

The body was taken this afternoon from the Day Funeral home to the home of the niece, Mrs. Dupree.
