Son of James Aaron and Lillian May Faulkner he spent his youth in various small towns in Arkansas and Oklahoma. He married Millie Cary and moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas where he went to work for the Fort Smith Times-Record. He later moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to take a job as a Classified Advertising Manager. His wife passed away in 1931 and in 1934 Roy married Maud Simpson. They moved to Port Arthur, Texas where Roy took the job as Classified manager of the Port Arthur News. After World War II he was asked to take the job as Manager of the Retail Merchants Association where he stayed until his retirement. His second wife passed away and needing something to do he worked as a night watchman, as a guard at a bank then as a guard and later sales clerk at Nacol's Jewelry Store. On March 5, 1983 he married Annie Laurie Lamb.
At the age of 90 Roy published a book titled "Just tired, Not retired".
