Rock Musician. Best known for his work as a member of "The Doobie Brothers". He was introduced to the drums at the age of twelve and participated with various cadet groups, acknowledging his instructors for teaching the skills he applied during his later playing years. Following service with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, he was preparing for a career in law enforcement, when he acted on the suggestion of a friend to try out for a spot as drummer (which he got) with the San Jose-based garage band called Mourning Reign. The group experienced short-lived success and disbanded following their return to San Francisco after touring. At the same time as Mourning Reign's end The Doobie Brothers were in pursuit of a new drummer to replace John Hartman. With the aid of his highly-regarded reputation, Hossack became the logical choice to be his successor. He became a member in time to add his talents to the album "Toulouse Street" (1972), which contained the hits "Listen to the Music", "Rockin' Down the Highway" and "Jesus Is Just Alright". This was followed with "The Captain and Me" (1973), which featured "China Grove" and "Long Train Runnin'". After a lengthy and tedious ten month tour proved too much for Hossack, he left the group and took a brief period off from the music industry. He returned to play in other bands and in 1977, he became a partner in Chateau Recorders Studio in North Hollywood. In 1987, he reunited with his former Doobie Brothers band mates to perform in a series of benefit concerts for Veterans of the Vietnam War. He remained a part of their lineup until illness forced him to stop in 2010. He died from cancer. (bio by: C.S.)
