Mrs. Emily Burt Kelley, age 95, of Peachtree City passed away on April 28, 2011.

Mrs. Kelley was born in Woodland, GA, on August 13, 1915. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Hoke B. Kelley. Mrs. Kelley was a resident of East Point for 60 years and was a member of the East Point First Mallelieu United Methodist Church.

She was a faithful member of the Fellowship Class and was well known for her wonderful inspirational programs and devotionals and her extensive knowledge of the Bible. She presented programs at churches throughout the state about the women of the Bible. She dressed dolls like many of the Bible characters, and her cousin, Alice Ledbetter, an Atlanta artist, painted watercolors of the characters for her presentations. These pictures are now treasured family heirlooms that always remind us of Emily's love of the Bible.

People were always requesting her original poems for special events and she readily supplied these with much wit and wisdom. Also, her slogan for the Atlanta Transit System was displayed on Atlanta trolleys for many years; " Read, Ride, and Arrive on Time!" and she created the winning slogan for the Atlanta Gas Light Company Newsletter. Mrs. Kelley was the secretary at Russell High School and later at Headland High School, and she loved working with the teachers and the students. Her greatest joy in life was inspiring and helping others.

She is survived by her daughter, Colleen Kelley McWilliams, of Woodstock, and her beloved granddaughters, Kelley Rogers Roberts and her husband Bradley Roberts of Roswell, Dr. Christie Rogers Montgomery and her husband, Dr. Robert W. Montgomery, of Woodstock.; great grandchildren, Bryan and Kirk Roberts of Roswell, and Robert and Katherine Montgomery of Woodstock. She is also survived by special nieces and nephews, Carolyne Allen Morgan, Morris and Agnes Allen, and Lynne Carlisle of Manchester; Michael Morgan of California; Jenny Allen Giddeon of Woodstock; Lamar McEachern of Fayetteville, who faithfully visited his Aunt Emily every week, Marion McEachern of Jonesboro, and Lee McEachern Collins of Newnan.

The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the staff and associates of Southland Health and Rehabilitation in Peachtree City for their amazing care, kindness and compassion during Emily's years at Southland.

Visitation and viewing will be at Carmichael Hemperley Funeral Home in East Point on April 30, 2011 from 10-12noon with Rev. Minnie Robinson providing prayer with family and friends. The graveside service will be at the Old Presbyterian City Cemetery in Woodland, GA at 3PM, where Emily will be buried with her husband and her family. Grandchildren Bradley Roberts, M.Div., and Kelley Roberts will be officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the East Point First Mallelieu United Methodist Church.
