ELOY — One Casa Grande man is dead and another behind bars after a deadly shooting Saturday night at Love's truck stop, 5000 N. Sunland Gin Road.
Eloy Police Department spokesman Brian Jerome said officers responded to reports of a shooting at 9:37 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man in a pickup truck in front of the truck stop with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was identified as Adam Curtis, 23. Curtis was flown to a Valley hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Jerome said a witness reported that the shooter fled the scene in a white Chevrolet pickup truck north on Sunland Gin Road. Later that evening a suspect called and turned himself in to the Casa Grande Police Department.
The man, identified as Chase Jones, 24, of the 1600 block of North Kadota Avenue was turned over to the Eloy Police Department. A gun believed to be used in the shooting was recovered.
Graveside services for Adam Spencer Curtis, 23, of Casa Grande will be conducted Saturday, March 17, at 11 a.m. at the Safford Cemetery.
Adam passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix.
Adam was born July 23, 1988, in Mesa. He attended Mesa schools until his family relocated their business to Casa Grande. Adam played football for Casa Grande Union High School, where he made many lifelong friends among the players and coaches.
He worked with his father as a third-generation livestock handler doing bovine podiatry.
Adam loved riding dirt bikes, creating music and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He was very devoted to his family.
Adam is survived by his wife, Jennelle; three sons, Addison, Aden and Andin Curtis; his 3-month-old daughter, Lilye (Lilly) Louise Curtis, all of Casa Grande; his parents, David and Ronnie DeHaan of Casa Grande; three brothers, Michael Curtis of Thatcher, Jared Curtis of Mesa, and lifelong friend Jason Bowers, whom he considered his brother. He is also survived by three sisters, Rebecca McEuen DeHaan of Arizona City, Caryl Costello of Thatcher, and Erica Holweger of Aurora, Colo.; grandparents, Ronald and Carol McEuen of Safford and Case DeHaan of Phoenix. Adam is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 16, at the Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Casa Grande.
