Thomas "Tom" Unrein, 52, of Grand Island died Saturday, March 10, 2012.

Tom was born Sept. 21, 1959, in Longmont, Colo., to Cyril and Mary (Kuhn) Unrein. Tom was raised in Mead, Colo., and attended school in Mead and Longmont High School.

He met Mary Larson of Meckling, S.D., in 1985 and they were united in marriage on Oct. 25, 1986, in Thornton, Colo. The couple moved to Arizona for a time while Tom was employed by Continental Airlines. They then moved back to the Midwest to be closer to their families, moving to Grand Island in 1989.

Tom was employed by Hornady Manufacturing and Steve's Appliance for several years and was currently employed by Case New Holland. Tom was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church and had a passion for Drama Ministry. His strong faith was a comfort during his illness. He loved his kitties, playing cards, good food and fellowship with his friends. His enjoyments included hunting, fishing, gardening, stock car racing and his newest hobby, watching mud drag racing. Always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, Tom will be remembered for his wit and unique "Tom-isms."

Survivors are: wife, Mary; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernie and Loree Unrein, Cy and Linda Unrein, Mel and Cathy Unrein and David and Yvonne Unrein, all of Colorado; sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Cecil Bohall, Carolyn and Vince Cummins, Joy McDonald, Phyllis Unrein and Mary Kay Unrein, also of Colorado, and Joyce and Warren Bertrang of Valentine; sisters-in-law, Anne Unrein and Gloria Powell, both of Colorado; brother-in-law, John Curley of Massachusetts; Mary's family, Mel, Betty, Jim, Karen, Russ and Cathy Larson; feline "girls," Samantha and Tabitha and a host of relatives and friends.
