He enlisted in the Army at the end of World War I & came down with the deadly influenza virus which he survived. He owned & operated Philp & Son Seed House in Burns, Wyoming and eventually farmed and raised Polled Herford cattle on the Adams Ranch (on Crow Creek) about 10 miles west of Grover, Colorado. Their six children grew up there. He retired in Fort Collins, Larimer Co., Colorado where he studied & learned Spanish & rode motor bikes.
