Catherine Eyring Edwards
1905 - 2006

Catherine Eyring Edwards, having lived an amazing 100 years, passed on valiantly July 16, 2006. She was born December 23, 1905 in Colonial Juarez, Mexico to Edward Christian Eyring and Caroline Romney. She left Mexico with her family during the revolution of 1912, settling in Pima, Arizona. After graduating from Gila Junior College, she attended Brigham Young University (1926-1928) where she met William F. Edwards whom she married in the Salt Lake Temple, September 6, 1929. They lived for 22 years in New York before returning to Utah. Catherine and Bill are parents of six children: Carolyn Clive (Clifford) Fox Island, WA; Weston, deceased, (Jaroldeen), Pleasant Grove; Robert (Judith) Salt Lake; Mildred Evans (Kirk) Provo; Catherine Poelman (Lloyd) and William Foster (Kathy) Salt Lake City.

Catherine was a beautiful, supportive wife to Bill who died August 13, 1989. She was active in the LDS Church, sharing her testimony and teaching her children constantly by her words and deeds. She fulfilled many church callings including ward Primary President, YWMIA President, Relief Society President, and served on the Children's Committee of Church Correlation, the Primary General Board, the writing committee for the first two Family Home Evening manuals, and as a temple worker in both the Provo and Salt Lake Temples. Catherine was also active on the BYU Emeritus Board, serving as President 1990-1991. She is survived by five children, 40 grandchildren, 145 great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren, her sister Rose Calder, Salt Lake and half sisters Jeneveve (Grant) Layton and Maurine Boyd, Provo, and Ethel Taylor Ft. Collins, CO.

Services will be held Saturday, July 22nd at 12 noon at the Monument Park 2nd Ward, 1005 South 2000 East, with a viewing on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, and visiting at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund.
