Birth: Mar. 30, 1786
Death: Jun. 11, 1815
Maury County
Tennessee, USA

Martha Kirk was born 30 Mar 1786 to Isaac Kirk and his wife, most likely in North Carolina, as that is where her father was a native. She became the wife of John Jacob Zollicoffer, a descendant of Swiss royalty, on 3 Jan 1803. They were blessed with 4 children: Leanna Zollicoffer Williams (1804-1848), Dr. Frederick Zollicoffer (1806-1874), Ann Maria Zollicoffer Swanson (1808-1854), and Brig. Gen. Felix Kirk Zollicoffer (1812-1862), the first Confedrate general to be killed during the Civil War. Martha died when Felix was just 3 years old. Most researchers list her death as 11 Jun 1815 but her granddaughter, Octavia Zollicoffer Bond, records her death date as 15 Jun 1815. She died at the families plantation home near Columbia in Maury County. She is laid to rest at the cemetery on the site of the old plantation. The last time a visit was made to the cemetery, the tombstone was almost completely buried and the inscription could not be read. A historic marker has been placed in front of the house on the road indicating this home was the birthplace of Gen. Felix Kirk Zollicoffer.
