Xavier M. Matson Crossed Great Divide

After an illness of six days Justice X. M. Matson, died at the family home Saturday night at 9 o'clock with compaction of the bowels. Mr. Matson's illness began Monday evening and it was not thought to be real serious and Saturday he was thought to be improving but his vitality was not strong enough to combat the poison and death ended his suffering at 9 o'clock in the evening.

Xavier Minnie Matson was born in Hillgrove, Dark county, Ohio, Dec. 23, 1884. He was the youngest child of a family of four. His mother died when he was three years of age. After the mother's death the family moved to Indiana near Indianapolis. He graduated from the Stockholm Law School and on May 20, 1873 he was admitted to practice law in Boone County, Indiana. After practicing law for six years he moved to Kansas and took a claim and proved up his homestead four miles southwest of Cheney. In 1881 he was married to Miss Amanda Goode. To this union were born three daughters. Besides the wife and three daughters, Mrs. Nelson Gardner of Dighton, Miss Maude and Mrs. harvey Ausherman, he leaves a brother, Green Matson of Middleton, Ohio. Early in life he was converted and became a member of the Methodist church.

Mr. Matson, familiarly known as "Judge" because he has held the office of justice of peace for a number of years, has been a familiar figure in the activities of this community. He was a great reader, especially of history. He was familiar with the political history of the great leaders and kept abreast of the current happenings in the world. His death was a great loss to his loved ones and to his many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev. Kessler officiating. Interment was made int he Vinita cemetery.
