Walter S. Klimek, 76, retired administrative assistant to the chairman of the Illinois Parole and Pardon Board, died Wednesday in Hines Veterans Hospital.
Mr. Klimek, of the Northwest Side, retired in 1985. Previously he had been guidance director at Weber High School for 12 years in the 1950s and early '60s.
In 1965 Gov. Otto Kerner appointed him to the Illinois Youth Commission and he joined the parole board in 1970.
Mr. Klimek was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy in the Pacific. He received the Purple Heart and in 1952 was chosen Illinois Veteran of the Year.
Survivors include his wife, Julia; a son, Walter J.; a daughter, Ramona Hageman; a sister, and one grandchild.
Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Eugene Church, 7958 W. Foster. Visitation will be tomorrow from 5 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. in Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence, Norridge. Burial will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles.
