Evan Macaulay was born in Balsover County, Ontario, Canada on February 4, 1873, the son of Reverend E.M. and Margaret (Monroe) Macaulay. He received his early education at Guelph Collegiate Institute in Guelph, Ontario. After a short term of employment by the Canadian government, he entered Queens University of Physicians and Surgeons, Kingston, Ontario, graduating with the class of 1899.
Dr. Macaulay first practiced medicine in Racine, Wisconsin until 1903 when he moved to Marathon County, Wisconsin. From 1918 to 1947 he was medical director of Mt. View Sanitorium. When he left there, he continued a limited practice of internal medicine and served as an instructor in tuberculosis at St. Mary's Hospital. In May 1950, ill health forced him to retire.
Dr. Macaulay was united in marriage at Kingston, Ontario on April 5, 1899 to Miss Edith Calvert. They had one daughter. Dr. Macaulay was a member of numerous fraternal and civic organizations during his active years and was a member of the Masonic lodge.
Dr. Evan Macaulay died on December 4, 1951. He is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau, WI.
