Olivia Johnson grew to adulthood at Milwaukie, Oregon, receiving her primary education in the town's grammar and high schools. After her 1917 graduation from Holy Names Normal School — now known as Marylhurst College — in Lake Oswego, Oregon, she began a long career as an educator.
In the early days of World War I, Olivia married Clarence Conner, a shingle weaver. He had spent much of his youth along the shores of Lake Huron in eastern Michigan, and as a teenager had moved westward with his family, settling first in Grays Harbor County, Washington, and later at Portland, Oregon. In September 1917, five months after the couple's wedding, Clarence entered the U. S. Army. He served in war-torn France and Germany from December 1917 until his discharge on September 27, 1919, sustaining permanent battle injuries while serving at the front lines.
The Conners spent the first few years of their marriage at Milwaukie, Oregon. In 1923 they moved north to Ridgefield, Washington, where Clarence took a job in a shingle mill. Over the next two decades, while Clarence continued to follow his trade, the couple lived in the western Washington communities of Selleck, Puyallup, Tenino, and Olympia. They returned permanently to Milwaukie in 1943.
While residing in Milwaukie, Olivia Conner served a lengthy tenure as a staff teacher with Saint John the Baptist parochial grade school, retiring in 1967. After October 1980 she resided with her daughter, Frankie, near Gresham, Oregon. Olivia died at 91.
