Hubert Coffee, 73, retired farmer and resident of the Carthag area 35 years, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the VA Hospital, Fayetteville, Arkansas. In failing health 20 years, Mr. Coffee entered the hospital last Jan 26.
He was born August 13, 1891, in west Plains, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Taylor Coffee. On April 4, 1921, Mr. Coffee was married to Frances Radle, in Hardy, Arkansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Coffee came to Carthage from near Lamar.
He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the American Legion post and the Last Man's Club of Joplin. He also was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving are the wife; two sons, Lawrence Ronald Coffee of Fontana, CA. and Paul S. Coffee, U.S. Navy, stationed aboard the USS Brush; five daughters, Mrs. Edward Bedford of Portland, OR.; Mrs. Paul Beard of Saugus, CA.; Mrs. Howard Pottorff of 1122 Case ST. Carthage; Mrs. Everett Witmer of Hunnington Beach, CA., and Mrs. Jessie Ogle of 314 Glenstone Drive; a sister, Mrs. Josie McDowell of Clarida, IA. and 12 grandchildren.
Three sons preceded him in death.
Funeral service were held at the Ulmer Funeral home and burial was in Park Cemetery.
Rev. J. H. DeVries officiated. Members of Carthage Lodge No. 197, A.F. & A.M. conducted ritualistic services at the funer home.
