Rosenberg Herald, January 7, 1938:

Funeral services for Mr. Karl Kettler, one of Needville's most prominent citizens, were held at the Evangelical Church there Tuesday afternoon, December 28, 1937, at 2 o'clock. Rev. Ernst and Rev. J.R. Vilt conducted the services in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. Interment followed in the Lutheran Evangelical Cemetery at Needville. The Foerster Funeral Home of Rosenberg had charge of funeral arrangements. Pallbearers were his nephews, Louis Hackstedt, Alfred Kettler, Edwin Senf, Emil Kettler, Clarence Warncke, and Henry Hackstedt. The large funeral offering attested to the high esteem in which Mr. Kettler was held in Needville and community.

Mr. Kettler was born in Washington County May 11, 1888. He moved with his parents, the late Henry Kettler and Mrs. Kettler, to the Modena community in Ft. Bend County during the year of 1905. On December 7, 1911, he was married to Miss Emma Hackstedt, moving to the Needville community where he remained until his death December 26. He was a member of the Needville Evangelical Emmanuel Church and was a member of the Church Council. He was prominent in all affairs of his community and his passing caused a pall of sorrow to be cast over the entire community in which he had made his home for so many years.

Mr. Kettler had been in ill health since October 13 when he first had an attack of heart trouble. He was taken to the Fort Bend Hospital where he improved and was later removed to his home. His condition became serious and he was returned to the hospital, but passed away at 10 p.m. December 26. He received the Lord's Supper and remained courageous and full of faith until the very end of his life. He was a fine christian gentleman and his memory will be lasting--his good deeds will not go unrewarded.

Deceased leaves to mourn his passing his wife; five sons, Melvin, Herbert, Alvin, Charles, and Henry; three daughters, Mrs. Hulda Leissner, Viola and Florena Kettler; two brothers, Henry and Willie Kettler; two sisters, Mrs. Alvina Warncke and Mrs. Ella Rister; one grandchild, LaVern Leissner.

Sympathy is extended the bereaved widow and children and other loved ones in the passing of this dear one.
