Everett W. Bowers, 80, R. R. 3, died Thursday night at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond after several months of failing health.

He was a native of Winchester and a lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was a graduate of McKinley High School, was a World War II Army veteran and retired in 1975 from Heckley and Shaffer in Winchester. He was a member of Main Street Christian Church in Winchester and attended Spartanburg Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Zane Armstrong Bowers in 1954.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Catherine Wise Bowers; three stepsons, Larry, Gary, and Ken Girton, all of Lynn; two stepdaughters, Joyce Edwards of Winchester, and Pam Roberts of Lynn; one nephew; two cousins, 12 step grandchildren; and six step great grandchildren.

Service will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday at Thomas Funeral Home in Lynn with the Rev. Steve Brackney officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Park Cemetery at Winchester. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
