Charles was the son of Amasa & Roena (Bailey) Braman.
He enlisted in the 34th Mass Regt, Co D in Worcester MA on 18 July 1862. He was wounded at New Market, Shenandoah, VA on 15 May 1864. He was wounded again at Lynchburg, Lynchburg, VA and taken as a prisoner of war. He was sent to Andersonville from where he was exchanged on 24 November 1864. He was discharged for disability on 10 January 1865.

Note: His father, Amasa, and brother, Leonard, served in the 31st Mass Regt. His brother,Henry, served in the 27th Mass & was at Andersonville at the same time as Charles.
