Death of Dr. Wort
With deep regret we announce the death of Dr. Samuel Wort. He died at his home in Brownstown, near twelve o'clock last Saturday, the 15th inst.
For several months Dr. Wort has been gradually failing in health, and has been most of the time confined to his room. He was one of the old settlers of this county. He was a native of Pennsylvania. He has been in practice here, we believe, for more than forty years.
Many years ago when this country was but sparsely settled, Dr. Wort had an extensive range of practice, reaching to Madison and throughout the neighboring counties. In those days, we have been informed, he did most of the surgical practice in a wide expanse of country.
Dr. Wort has labored hard in the profession all his life. There is hardly a family of the earlier setlers of the county who will not remember some kind and benevolent act received at the hands of the deceased.
As a physician Dr. Wort was characterized for boldness and originality. He was wedded to certain theories, but was a close observer and an original thinker. Of late years Dr. Wort has been very assidious in his efforts to build up the Jackson County medical society of which he was lonf the honored President. He was also a member of the State medical society. Dr. Wort must have been over seventy years of age.
In his death the profession has lost an industrious and zealous member, the country a true patriot and worthy citizen, and his family a tender and indulgent husband and father.
