SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC records (Equity Court, box 21, Pkg 3) tell us that John made a will dated 9 May 1813 and that it was presented to the court 5 July 1813. The witnesses of the will, were not able to attest to his being of sound mind, and the will was not proven.
His son-in-law, Nathan Byars, then requested to be administrator but Rebecca Turner, wife of the decedent, stepped up to claim the administratorship.
This will gave son, Nathan, a negro named Job and all his smith tools. To daughter, Sally, a negro named Sarah. All the rest to his wife, Rebecca, and after her death to be divided between all his children.
He named Joseph Price and Joshua Richards as his executors. Witnesses; Jesse Turner, Rachel Price and Robert Price. Appraisers of the estate were; Charles Hester, Joseph Price, Nathan Byars, Joseph Camp and Joshua Richards.
The estate was appraised and a sale of personal property was held. But the estate was vigorously disputed and not settled until after the death of Rebecca in 1836.
