Arkansas City- Charles Wesley Monroe Sr., 73, of Arkansas City, died Fe 26, 2000, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. The Rev.'s Sherman Beasterfeld and Wade C Graber will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Monroe was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Oakhurst, Okla., to Virginia(Gaffney) and John Thomas Monroe. He was raised and educated in Oakhurst, rural Skiatook and Sperry, all in Oklahoma and graduated from Sperry High School in 1943.
From Aug. 21, 1946, until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1951, Monroe served in the National Guard. He served in Korea and was discharged in 1954.
On Oct. 9, 1966, Monroe married Norma Jean Morhain in Arkansas City. He worked as an inspector for General Electric at Strother Field for 13 years.
He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, the Arkansas City Kiwanis Club and the Spencer Ralston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1254. He had served on the funeral detail for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Monroe, and two sons Charles Monroe, Jr. and Thomas Monroe, all of Arkansas City; a brother, Danny Lee Monroe, of Catoosa, Okla., and two grandchildren.
