"There is a reaper whose name is death", which invaded a happy little home at Lodiburg, Ky., claiming a beloved wife and mother, when Mrs. Alma Shirley Keys Deacon, wife of Roscoe Deacon, passed away peacefully after a brief illness of diptheria and complications later developing into pneumonia. Mrs. Deacon was born September 17, 1896, and died January 16, 1936. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Keys of Lodiburg and was united in marriage to Roscoe E. Deacon, also of Lodiburg on Oct. 7, 1917.
To this union, six children were born, Frances, Delvina, Kenneth, Anna Elizabeth, Juanita and Irma Lois, all of whom survive her.
She is also survived by her husband, her parents, three sisters, Mrs. J.M. Barr of Frymire; Mrs. J.M. Payne of Lodiburg, Mrs. Roy Hall of Webster; two brothers, Frank and Wilbur Keys of Lodiburg.
Two brothers, Hobart and Theadore, preceded her in death several years ago.
She leaves many relatives and close friends. She made a profession of religion and united with the Walnut Grove Baptist Church Oct. 7, 1908, and was ever loyal to her church and Sunday School. Her gentle manner, kind and pleasing disposition together with her pure Christian character and faithfulness to her church and loved ones, will always be an inspiration and influence for good to those who knew her. She was an indulgent and sacrificing mother, forgetting self in thinking of others.
The funeral service was held at the home by Rev. Wm. Varble of Cloverport, pastor of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. J.D. Ashcraft of Irvington was the funeral director.
