Born in Veszprim, Hungary, he was a master violinist, transcriber of violin music and a professor at the Imperial Conservatory in Petrograd. In 1918, he relocted to New York, where he was noted for his great violin students which included Mischa Elman, Jascha Heifetz, Toscha Seidel and Efrem Zimbalist.
