Glynn Carlock, Sr., of 1712 Whitehorn Extension, Bluefield, died Monday, August 8, 2005 at Westwood Health Care in Bluefield, Va.
He was born in Yukon, W.Va. and was a son of Gladys Canard of Martinsville, Va. and the late Frank Carlock. He attended High School at Big Creek High School in War, W.Va. and received his B.S. Degree at Concord College in Athens and his Master of Science Degree at Radford University in Radford, Va.
Mr. Carlock served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 until 1960. He formerly worked for the Mercer County School System at Bluefield High School for 10 years where he was Guidance Counselor, Biology and Physical Education Teacher and was Assistant Football Coach and Track Coach. He was the Head Football Coach at Graham High School in Bluefield, Va. from 1973 and was also Athletic Director.
Glynn was inducted in the Virginia High School Hall of Fame in October 1998, was President of the Virginia High School Coaches Association, Member of the Virginia High School Executive Committee and a member of the National Federation of State High School Association. He also was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Ann B. Carlock and son, Glynn Carlock, Jr.; sisters, Barbara Honaker, Martinsville, Va., Betty Overbey, Martinsville, Va., and Rita Swift of Mo.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Bluefield Auditorium, Stadium Drive, Bluefield with Dr. Primitive Delgado and Dr. W.D. Hasty officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va. Pallbearers will be Bill Kinzer, Ted Jones, Sam Crockett, Ron Davidson, Tim Bane, Sam McKinney, Frank Mitchell and Bill Stone. Honorary Pallbearers will be Doug Marrs, Tim Woodward, Don Jones, Morgan Campbell, Eric Workman, David Litz, Lee Walker, Dave Kovach, Pete Sarver and Donnie Linkous.
Friends may call today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Bluefield Auditorium, Stadium Drive, Bluefield. The family of Coach Carlock are in the process of forming a Foundation to honor the Coach. More information will be coming in the future concerning this foundation. The family also wants to offer praise to the Westwood Health Care Center and in particular, to the staff. Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va., is serving the Carlock Family.
