Matsy Warrick Shea of Dumas died Saturday, February 25th, at Delta Memorial Hospital. Born October 29, 1926 at McGehee, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Lester Warrick and Ruth Young Warrick and the widow of Thomas Francis Shea, Jr. whom she married in 1953.
She was educated in the McGehee schools and at Louisiana State University where her sorority was Chi Omega.
She was active in local civic, cultural and church activities. A devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Dumas, she was a long time volunteer for American Cancer Society and a founding board member of Main Street Dumas. As a former board member of Walnut Lake Country club, she served on the committee which supervised design and construction of the existing clubhouse. She was also a board member for Walnut Lake Cemetery Association, and in 1970 she was honored as Woman of the Year by the Dumas Lions Club.
She is survived by three children: Anne Shea Carroll and her husband Bruce Carroll of Fripp Island, South Carolina, Thomas McKennon Shea and his wife, the former Debra Wolfe, of Dumas, and William Warrick Shea and his wife, the former Robin Cobb, also of Dumas. She had seven grandchildren: Shea Hussey Lackey and her husband Josh Lackey of Memphis, Tennessee, Curry Hussey Del Pozzo and her husband Michael Del Pozzo of Portland, Oregon, Annesley Jane Hussey of Dallas, Texas, Sarah Helen Shea Studebaker and her husband Peyton Studebaker of Richmond, Virginia, Thomas McKennon Shea, Jr. and his wife, the former Anna Collins, of Durham, North Carolina, Adam Warrick Shea of Dumas and Elizabeth Adele Shea, also of Dumas. She also had three great-granchildren: Eva Hampton Lackey, Julia Kathleen Lackey and Jackson Reade Studebaker.
Funeral services wereheld Tuesday, February 28th, at First United Methodist Church of Dumas at 2 p.m. with burial at Walnut Lake Cemetery. Griffin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
