Son of Thomas Jefferson Tibbetts and Sarah Caroline Harris in Boothbay Harbor, Lincoln County, Maine, a family of fisherman.
At an age where he needed to decide if he wanted to go to sea with the rest of his family he decided he wanted to be a plumber. He moved to Seattle, King County, Washington where he built University Plumbing and, thus, began a tradition of plumbers within the Tibbetts family of Seattle, Washington.
