Rock Musician. A native of Cuffley, Herts, England, Atkinson was the guitarist for the British musical group, 'The Zombies.' Along with Colin Blunstone, Chris White, Rod Argent, and Hugh Grundy, Atkinson formed the group in 1962 in S. Alban's, Herts, England. The group were together for 5 years until they disbanded in 1967. The group recorded on the record labels, Big Beat UK, Repertoire, Varese Sarabande, See For Mile, Import, Castle, and Decca. With the help of winning a local contest the group was signed to the Decca Record Label and relesed three of there biggest hits, 'She's Not There', 'Time Of The Season', and 'Tell Her No.' Those three recordings alone hit the Top 10, Top 20, and the Top 40 music charts. The group went onto record a few other minor hits but after not having another hit in quite awhile the group decided to break up in 1967. The group's other recordings include, 'Care Of Cell 44', 'A Rose For Emily', 'Maybe After He's Gone', 'Hung Up On A Dream', Butcher's Tale', 'Knowing You,' 'Blue', 'Alone In Paradise', and 'Monday Morning Dance.' Atkinson died at the age of 58 in 2004, after suffering from cancer for some time. He had also been on kidney dialysis and had two liver transplants. Just before his death, Atkinson and the original 'Zombie' members appeared together at a dinner in Hollywood, California, in January 2004. It was the first time in 30 years that the band had been together. (bio by: K)
