US Congressman. Elected as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 4th District in the US House of Representatives, he served one term, from 1891 to 1893. Gantz was born in Bethel Township, Miami County, Ohio, and graduated from the Cincinnati Law College in 1883. He was admitted to the bar that same year and opened a law practice in Troy, Ohio, where he was elected mayor in 1889. Defeated for reelection to Congress in 1892, Gantz returned to his Troy practice but remained active in politics. He was a delegate to all Democratic State Conventions from 1892 to 1906, and a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1908. In his last years he worked with the US State Department on banking and commerce issues with Nicaragua. He died in Troy.
