Marriage Bond of April 14, 1906 revealed Ben Gipson (20) and Dixie Coley (18) of Roane County were firmly bound to the State of Tennessee in the sum of twelve hundred and fifty dollars if they didn't marry.

Marriage license issued April 14, 1906 in Kingston, Tennessee for Ben Gipson and Dixie Coley revealed they married on April 15, 1906 in Roane County, Tennessee.

Benjamin was really only eighteen and Dixie was fifteen when they married. They were still living in Tennessee when their son, Ray was born in June, 1907.

The 1910 census of April 18, revealed Benjamin earned wages as a coal miner and they rented their home on Clear Fork Road in Bell County, Kentucky. Benjamin, his father and Dixie and her parents were all born in Tennessee. Ben could not read or write. They had been married four years, had one child and one still living. Household members: Den Gibson (21), Dilie (19) and Ray (2).

They had moved to Tennessee before their son, Alfred was born on September 29, 1910.

The 1920 census of January 6, revealed they rented their home in District 9, Claiborne County, Tennessee. Dixie's widowed mother, Emeline lived with them. Household members: Benjamin Gibson (31), Dixie (27), Ralf (12), Fred (9), Maud (7), Beatrice (5), Ruby (2), Samuel (1) and Emeline Colie (74).

Sometime after 1923 when Dixie became ill with Pellagra (a disease caused by nutritional deficiencies), they moved to Lee County, Virginia and lived in Benedict Camp where Ben worked for the Benedict Mine Company in St Charles.
