Marriage Bond of April 14, 1906 revealed Ben Gipson (20) and Dixie Coley (18) of Roane County were firmly bound to the State of Tennessee in the sum of twelve hundred and fifty dollars if they didn't marry.

Marriage license issued April 14, 1906 in Kingston, Tennessee for Ben Gipson and Dixie Coley revealed they married on April 15, 1906 in Roane County, Tennessee.

Benjamin was really only eighteen and Dixie was fifteen when they married. They were still living in Tennessee when their son, Ray was born in June, 1907.

The 1910 census of April 18, revealed Benjamin earned wages as a coal miner and they rented their home on Clear Fork Road in Bell County, Kentucky. Benjamin, his father and Dixie and her parents were all born in Tennessee. Ben could not read or write. They had been married four years, had one child and one still living. Household members: Den Gibson (21), Dilie (19) and Ray (2).

They had moved to Tennessee before their son, Alfred was born on September 29, 1910.

The 1920 census of January 6, revealed they rented their home in District 9, Claiborne County, Tennessee. Dixie's widowed mother, Emeline lived with them. Household members: Benjamin Gibson (31), Dixie (27), Ralf (12), Fred (9), Maud (7), Beatrice (5), Ruby (2), Samuel (1) and Emeline Colie (74).

Sometime after 1923 when Dixie became ill with Pellagra (a disease caused by nutritional deficiencies), they moved to Lee County, Virginia and lived in Benedict Camp where Ben worked for the Benedict Mine Company in St Charles.

They had been married twenty-three years and their son, Willard was three years old when Dixie died at age 39 in 1929 in Virginia.

The 1930 census of April 28, revealed Benjamin was a widower and rented his home for $8 per month in Rocky Station, Bonnie Blue, Lee County, Virginia. Benjamin was seventeen at first marriage. Household members: Ben Gibson (40), Fred A. (19) Beatrice (14), Ruby (12), Samuel (11), Johny W. (8), Ethel M. (6), J. B. (James Benjamin) (5) and James W. (3).

Marriage record revealed Ben H. Gibson of Kingston, Tennessee and Willie Estel Sutton of Pineville, Kentucky married on February 11, 1933 in Evarts, Kentucky.

Ben was forty-five and Willie Sutton was eighteen when they married.

Their first child, Junior was born in November 1933 in Kentucky and their daughter, Helen was born in Tennessee in 1935.

The 1940 census of April 10 revealed they rented their home for $6 per month and lived in Clairfield, Claiborne County, Tennessee as in 1935. Benjamin had a second grade education and Willie had a fourth grade education. He worked 44 weeks and earned $900 in 1939. Household members: Ben Gibson (51), Willie (24), Junies (6), Louise (4) and Mary Ellen (2). His son, Samuel and family lived four doors away.

Their son, Winford was born in March 1944 in Tennessee.

The 1945 Florida State Census revealed Ben was a farmer and they were living in Precinct 9, Bowling Green, Hardee County, Florida. Ben's brother, Winburn & family lived next door and his son, Ray & family lived next door on the other side. Ben had a second grade education and Willie had a third grade education. Household members: Ben Gibson (55), Willie (28), Willard (18),Lee Jr. (11), Helen L. (9), Marry Ellen (7), Olen W. (2) and Winfred E (1).

Their daughter, Wilma was born in March 1946 in Tennessee.

{{ Gibson Reunion Sees Many Back - Mr. Benjamin Harrison Gibson, age 79, Clairfield, Tennessee, held a family reunion on July 4th. He is a father of 19 living children. He farms everyday and is reported to have some of the finest vegetables in the Clear Fork Valley.

Death record revealed Ben H. Gibson resided in Tennessee and died at age 88 on May 2, 1976 in Bell County, Kentucky.

Death Certificate revealed Ben Harrison Gibson was born on September 10, 1887 in Tennessee and was a coal miner. Ben and wife, Willie Sutton resided at R#1 box 67 in Clairfield, Claiborne County, Tennessee. Ben, age 88 died of Pulmonary Heart Disease due to Emphysema and Tuberculosis on May 2, 1976 in the Community Hospital in Middlesboro, Bell County, Kentucky. His parents were Alfred Gibson and Lillie Brown. His wife, Willie was the informant. Burial was on May 5, 1976 in Woodlawn Cemetery in LaFollette, Tennessee.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Gibson of Clairfield; nine daughters, Maude McCormick, Mae Hartman, Mary Ellen Workman, all of Baltimore, Md., Beatrice Rainey, Ruby Rogers, both of Evarts, Ky., Janice Brewer and Janette Brewer, both of Pruden Tenn.; Louise Davis of Brunswick, Ohio; Darlene Webb of Hamblin Tenn; and nine sons, Ray of Hyden, Ky., Fred of Cleveland, Tenn., Sam of LaFollette, Tenn.; John of Clairfield, Tenn., Lee Jr., Winfred, and Michael, all of Clairfield, Tenn., James W. and Olen, both of Baltimore, Md. Other survivors include 74 grandchildren; 124 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Carrie Wiles of Bowling Green, Fla.; and two brothers, W. L. Gibson and Edd Gibson both of Bowling Green, Fla.

Harp Funeral Home of Jellico was in charge of arrangements. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at the Freewill Baptist Church, Rev. Roland officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.}}
